Before the end of school, Title I Reading Specialist Marcia Ruff completed a project for all the students at Westfall Elementary. To combine Mrs. Ruff's love of reading and farming, she developed the idea of providing a farm book for every child in the school. Mrs. Ruff visited each classroom to talk about the books, farming in the community, and allowed students to choose their very own book to keep. All the books had a farm or farm-related theme. To fund the project, grant money and private sponsorships of Scholastic e-gift cards were secured.
Thank you to the sponsors of this project: Pickaway County Community Foundation Ag Fund, Westfall Education Foundation Field of Dreams Fund, Marcia Ruff-Top Producer Trailblazer Award Winner, Trust in Food-A Farm Journal Initiative, Circleville Kiwanis, Nancy Peck Detty, Beck's Hybrids, Rick and Pat Pond, Sally Walters-Fox Run Farm, Nancy Lahrmer Fitzpatrick.
The students and staff were very excited about the project. Students were excited to write their name inside their book and have it to read for the summer.
